Russia Expands Crypto Regulation as Sberbank Prepares to Launch Crypto Services

Russia is taking further steps to regulate its cryptocurrency market. Sberbank, the country’s largest bank, is preparing to introduce crypto-related services, potentially allowing customers to access digital assets through regulated financial platforms.

The move comes as Russia plans stricter cryptocurrency rules from July 1, 2027, including restrictions on peer-to-peer (P2P) transactions and the use of self-custodial wallets for crypto transfers.

Under the proposed framework, residents will increasingly be required to use authorized intermediaries, such as licensed brokers and exchanges, for cryptocurrency transactions.

Market Impact: The changes could shift more crypto trading volume toward regulated platforms while reducing access to direct P2P transactions and self-custody options.?
