🚨 Bitcoin's short-term holders reportedly control 4.08M BTC. Is that bullish?

An on-chain estimate attributed to CryptoQuant analyst Axel Adler puts short-term-holder supply at a four-month high, up approximately 422,000 BTC since July 29.
But more coins in newer hands don't automatically mean stronger demand.
Many recent buyers reportedly entered around $82K–$86K.
Meanwhile, the broader short-term-holder cohort has an estimated average cost basis near $74.9K.
That distinction matters: some newer buyers may be underwater even while the overall cohort remains profitable.
Glassnode's October 14 report adds another warning. US spot Bitcoin ETFs had recorded roughly $760M in net outflows since October 7, while buyers from 6–12 months ago had a cost basis around $88K.
The question isn't simply how much BTC short-term holders own.
It's whether fresh demand can absorb selling from investors looking to exit near break-even.
I'd watch spot demand, ETF flows and Bitcoin's reaction around the $80K–$81.5K zone identified in Glassnode's report.
Is new demand building a stronger foundation—or leaving Bitcoin more exposed to reactive selling?
Not financial advice.
