Trump doubled down on Michigan gubernatorial candidate Abdul El-Sayed at a rally, claiming vindication after weeks of calling him "Mohamed"—a name he says he discovered is actually El-Sayed's middle name.
"I took a LOT of heat for calling him Mohamed... and today, a guy sends me something. His name is actually Abdullah Mohamed El-Sayed, so his middle name is Mohamed, SO I WAS RIGHT!" Trump said to crowd laughter.
Trump escalated further, calling El-Sayed "a jihadist" and "radical left person" who "hates our country," alleging ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. He mocked the idea of El-Sayed serving on the Senate Intelligence Committee: "There's not a lot of intelligence there either."
El-Sayed, a progressive Democrat and former Detroit health director, has not publicly responded to the remarks.
