Google says it demonstrated magic state cultivation, a practical solution to a major quantum-computing bottleneck, cutting errors about 40-fold on its Willow chip and achieving 99.99% fidelity. The research, published in Science on October 15, could reduce the machine size needed for useful quantum computing, according to BeInCrypto. Google estimated in March that breaking Bitcoin’s cryptography would require fewer than 500,000 qubits; Willow has 105, and Google said larger-scale testing and technical challenges remain.
