#tetherfreezesusdtlinkedtoledgertheft 🚨 TETHER FREEZES $10M USDT AS LEDGER-LINKED CRYPTO THEFT EXCEEDS $90M
A major security incident involving Ledger hardware wallet users has raised fresh concerns across the crypto industry. On-chain investigators have traced approximately $92.9 million in suspected losses linked to devices purchased through Southeast Asian reseller CryptoBilis.
🔍 1️⃣ What Happened?
Ledger is investigating reports of drained crypto wallets connected to customers who purchased devices through CryptoBilis. The company asked the reseller to suspend sales and shipments while investigations continue. The exact cause and full scope of the incident remain under investigation.
🔒 2️⃣ Tether Freezes $10 Million
On-chain analysis by Bitquery reported that Tether froze approximately $10 million in USDT across 20 wallets linked to the incident. The action prevents those specific frozen tokens from being transferred, but it does not automatically return the funds to victims.
⚠️ 3️⃣ Some Funds Moved Beyond USDT Controls
Investigators also traced approximately $14.6 million into USDD, a separate stablecoin on the TRON ecosystem. Unlike USDT, USDD is not controlled by Tether, meaning Tether's USDT blacklist cannot directly freeze USDD tokens.
📊 4️⃣ What Does This Mean for Crypto?
The incident highlights two important realities: centralized stablecoin issuers can sometimes freeze suspicious funds, while hardware wallet security also depends on the integrity of the device and its supply chain. However, the incident does not establish that all Ledger devices are compromised.
