#frenchhillurgesclarityactpassageinlameduck 🚨 IS THE U.S. CRYPTO CLARITY ACT COMING BACK? 🇺🇸
The CLARITY Act hit a major roadblock in the Senate — but the story may not be over yet.
On September 15, the Senate voted 49–50 on a procedural motion to advance H.R. 3633, falling short of the 60 votes required. Importantly, this was a procedural vote, not a final vote on whether the bill becomes law.
Now, House Financial Services Committee Chairman French Hill says he still hopes lawmakers can revive the legislation during the post-election lame-duck session.
🔥 Why does this matter for crypto?
🔹 Federal rules could provide more legal certainty
The CLARITY Act is designed to establish a federal framework for digital assets and clarify the respective roles of the SEC and CFTC. Supporters argue that legislation could provide more durable rules than agency guidance that can change over time.
🔹 Institutional confidence
Clearer rules around digital-asset markets could potentially make it easier for traditional financial institutions and crypto companies to plan long-term investments and operations.
🔹 The timeline is getting tighter
Congress has already left Washington ahead of the November midterm elections, with lawmakers expected to return for the post-election session. Hill is pointing to that period as another opportunity to negotiate and potentially advance the bill.
⚠️ But there are still major hurdles.
The September vote showed that bipartisan disagreements remain, and the bill would still need enough Senate support before moving toward final passage.
So the big question isn't simply:
“Is CLARITY Act dead?”
