Follow for Korea updates. Tips welcome — they help buy my cat a snack.
I'm Korean too, so I'll clear everything out before December.
South Korea is about to track crypto leaving the country. From December 3, 2026, transfers from a Korean exchange to an overseas exchange or a personal wallet must be reported to the Bank of Korea and shared with the tax office, customs, and financial regulators. It is not a ban, but the paper trail makes overseas moves less anonymous. Once those flows are tracked, liquidity dries up.
That matters for altcoins, because a lot of Korean retail money sits in them. Koreans hold a large share of XRP in particular, so coins that depend on Korean buying can feel a direct hit if that flow slows. Bitcoin is more shielded by global institutions and ETFs.
There is a second risk. If the Democratic Party actually imposes the long-delayed crypto tax, more Korean holders may sell or move out, and altcoins with heavy Korean ownership would be the first to feel it. If you hold alts, watch Korea — the reporting rule in December, and any tax decision after that.
