$ZEC Zcash Officially Enters Washington: PGPZ Registers as Lobbyist

Pretty Good Policy for Zcash (PGPZ), a policy advocacy organization focused on the Zcash ecosystem has officially registered to lobby in the United States, effective October 1.

Details:

Divij Pandya, PGPZ's executive director, is the sole registered lobbyist
Focus areas: Advancing enforcement of the CLARITY Act and tax proposals for digital assets

PGPZ grew out of a predecessor initiative launched by Electric Coin Co. in 2022

Paul Brigner (PGPZ founder, Policy Director at ZODL) says the goal is to secure "serious, organized, and credible" policy space for Zcash

This is a strategic move, but also a challenging one. Zcash is one of the oldest privacy-focused crypto projects launched in 2016. But its very privacy features are the biggest hurdle when engaging lawmakers.

For years, privacy coins like Zcash and Monero have been viewed as "tools for criminals" by some regulators. PGPZ registering as an official lobbyist is a way to change that perception not by avoiding the conversation, but by engaging directly.

Notably, PGPZ is focusing on the CLARITY Act. This is a key bill that could shape the legal framework for digital assets in the US. If PGPZ succeeds in ensuring privacy coins are legally recognized, that would set an important precedent for the entire industry.

That said, remember: lobbying is a long game. PGPZ has just one representative while giants like Coinbase and a16z have entire policy teams. But starting is the most important step.

What do you think can Zcash's lobbying efforts shift how lawmakers view privacy coins?
