Dogecoin’s ecosystem is moving beyond simple transfers.
DogeOS has opened its public testnet, bringing an EVM-compatible application layer to Dogecoin through a zero-knowledge rollup. Developers can now test applications such as trading, lending and stablecoin infrastructure, with DOGE used for testnet transaction fees.
But there’s an important catch:
This is still a testnet. Dogecoin’s base layer does not currently verify the rollup’s ZK proofs, and DogeOS has not announced a mainnet date yet.
That makes this more interesting than a simple hype story.
If DogeOS reaches mainnet and the ecosystem actually attracts builders, DOGE could be used for more than payments and speculation.
