A quick rundown of the latest happenings and significant milestones within the Tezos ecosystem for September 2026.

Welcome to our latest issue, Month At A Glance (September 2026), where we give a quick rundown of the latest happenings and significant milestones in the Tezos ecosystem on a monthly cadence.

September was another busy month across the Tezos ecosystem, with developments spanning core technology, infrastructure, digital art, new tools, and the wider community. Some looked further ahead at where Tezos is heading, while others added new pieces to what is already being built and used today.

Let’s break it all down.

Ecosystem Insights

Tezos Goes Post-Quantum With Quantumnet

September brought Tezos’ post-quantum work into a much more tangible phase. On September 2, twelve years after the Tezos white paper was published, Arthur Breitman laid out why the work is starting now rather than waiting for quantum computing to become an immediate threat. A few weeks later, that discussion turned into something builders could actually experiment with through the launch of Quantumnet.

Quantumnet is an early experimental post-quantum testnet bringing several proposed changes together in one environment. It includes tz5 accounts using ML-DSA-44 signatures, Smooth Weighted Round Robin for baking rights, XMSS signatures with STARK aggregation for consensus, and ZODA replacing KZG commitments and proofs in the Data Availability Layer.

This is still very early work, with limited tooling, higher hardware requirements, and plenty of testing ahead. But the important part is that Tezos’ post-quantum research now has a live network where these ideas can be tested together rather than only discussed individually.

Anchorage Digital Adds Institutional Custody for Etherlink

On September 16, Anchorage Digital announced support for Etherlink and an initial group of assets on the network, including xU3O8, WXTZ, stXTZ, USDT, USDC, USDSM, and WETH.

The integration is particularly relevant to the real-world asset story we’ve been following this year. Tokenized uranium has already expanded across exchanges and markets, but institutional participation also depends on infrastructure such as regulated custody. Anchorage Digital Bank is a federally chartered crypto bank in the United States, giving institutional clients another way to hold supported Etherlink assets through existing custody infrastructure.

It may not be something most everyday users directly interact with, but it fills in another part of the institutional stack around Etherlink and the assets being issued on it.

News From The Tezos Ecosystem: Quick Bits

Beyond those insights, the ecosystem saw plenty of other noteworthy developments worth a quick look:

  • Kento Season 01 Has a Big Kickstarter Launch Kento went from “coming soon” to a real product in September, and collectors responded quickly. Season 01 brings together work from 40 artists as physical collectible art cards built around the theme of Web Nostalgia. Just over a week after launch, the campaign had already crossed $140,000 in pledges, before moving beyond $150,000 with more than 660 backers. That is quite a jump from the Kickstarter launch we previewed in August.

  • Octez 25.2 Brings Another Round of Security and DAL Improvements Octez 25.2 was released on September 3, hardening node validation, strengthening Micheline parsing, and improving DAL node resilience. Among the changes, DAL nodes now place limits on resources consumed by peer-to-peer traffic, while an unavailable DAL node will no longer prevent a baker from proposing and attesting. Node operators and bakers were advised to upgrade promptly.

  • Baking Bad Teases xtzkt The team behind TzKT gave us an early look at what it is working on next: xtzkt, an explorer intended to bring activity across Tezos Layer 1 and Tezos X into one place, with visibility across Michelson and EVM. There isn’t much more to show just yet, with the project still carrying a simple “Soon,” but a unified explorer is exactly the kind of tooling that becomes increasingly useful as Tezos X rolls out.

  • Etherlink 7.2 Continues the Security Work Around Ganesha After Ganesha introduced the Michelson runtime and Native Atomic Composability in August, September brought another round of security work with Etherlink 7.2. The release addressed potential denial-of-service and liveness issues across areas including gas accounting, memory allocation, storage reads, EVM precompiles, and the delayed inbox. Later in the month, Nomadic Labs, Trilitech, and Functori published the technical disclosures covering issues fixed across versions 7.0, 7.1, and 7.2, confirming that none of the disclosed vulnerabilities had been exploited.

  • Metals.io Lands an Awards Nomination Metals.io was nominated for Best Financial Innovation at the TrustFinance Awards 2026. Not a listing and not a custody integration, but another sign that the commodity-tokenization story is being read outside the usual crypto circles.

  • Responsive Signals Lands at MoMI The second event in this year’s Museum of the Moving Image × Tezos Foundation partnership took place on September 22nd in New York: talks, demos, and interactive installations from Jonas Lund, Yoshi Sodeoka, and others, while Terms of Agreement remains on view through October 25th.

  • Teia Opens Event Proposals After receiving approval for a second batch of Tezos Foundation grant funding in August, Teia spent September collecting community event proposals, with a deadline at the end of the month.

  • Anchor Experiments With Collector-Owned Art Preservation DagieDee introduced Anchor, an open-source project exploring another recurring problem in digital art: preservation. The idea is to give collectors infrastructure they can operate themselves rather than relying entirely on a marketplace or other centralized service to keep the works they own accessible.
