🚨 Crypto Mom Is Leaving The SEC — Why Now?
Hester Peirce leaves the SEC on October 2, right as the agency is pushing forward with a much clearer crypto rulebook.
Peirce, known as "Crypto Mom," has been an SEC commissioner since 2018 and has led its Crypto Task Force since February 2025. Her departure is a planned transition after her term expired in 2025, not a reported protest or dispute.
But look at what is happening before she leaves.
On August 18, the SEC proposed Regulation Crypto Assets, including new exemptions and a safe harbor for certain crypto offerings. On September 17, it approved a 5-year conditional exemption for certain tokenized-stock trading venues and liquidity providers. And on September 25, the SEC released new crypto FAQs.
Peirce was still speaking about crypto policy on September 23, just days before her exit.
👉 So what now?
Her departure doesn't automatically stop these policies. The Crypto Task Force remains active, with Chairman Paul Atkins and Commissioner Mark Uyeda continuing at the SEC.
For crypto, the key thing to watch is whether the SEC keeps turning these proposals, exemptions and guidance into actual rules and implementation after October 2.
That could matter far more than the resignation itself. $ZEC $ENA $SUI #SEC
