Markets have sharply increased expectations for another Federal Reserve rate hike in October. The probability of a 25-basis-point increase reached 69.7% on September 23, up from 55.4% a day earlier, as stronger-than-expected U.S. economic data renewed inflation concerns.

The September flash composite PMI jumped to 58.4, its strongest reading since July 2021, while input-cost pressures accelerated. Fed Governor Michael Barr said further policy adjustments are likely to ensure inflation returns to target. Treasury yields also climbed as traders repriced the outlook.
