According to RTHK, Sina Finance and Reuters, Japan's Tokyo cash market was closed on Wednesday for the Autumnal Equinox Day (秋分の日) holiday, leaving no fresh Nikkei 225 print; regional trade rode a technology-led advance elsewhere as oil stayed subdued.
Seoul's KOSPI held gains at midday, up 0.48% at 7,051.28 as of 04:32 UTC after opening near 2% higher and paring the advance. Samsung Electronics added 2.71% to 284,000 won while SK Hynix edged up 0.43% to 1,848,000 won.
Hong Kong stocks ended the morning lower, with the Hang Seng Index down 0.76% at a half-day close of 24,896.04, slipping below 25,000, and the Hang Seng Tech Index off 0.97%. Technology majors fell broadly — Alibaba lost 2.87%, Xiaomi 2.50% and Tencent 2.30% — while mainland property names bucked the trend, with Ronshine China up more than 19%. PCB-related Kingboard Laminates gained over 5% and Zhipu declined more than 6%.
Taiwan's TAIEX rose 0.69% to 48,132.12 as of 04:32 UTC, supported by chip names after August export orders hit a record high value on strong AI demand, per Reuters. TSMC advanced 1.22% to NT$2,490 and Hon Hai gained 1.19%, while MediaTek eased 0.10%.
In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.36% to a half-day close of 3,938.08, the Shenzhen Component lost 0.58% and the ChiNext Index declined 0.43%.
