Solana has reached another important infrastructure milestone. On September 18, 2026, its mainnet-beta target slot time moved from 300ms → 250ms under SIMD-0525.
That means Solana is now targeting roughly 4 slots per second. 👀
🔹 Previous target: 300ms
🔹 New target: 250ms
🔹 Next long-term goal: 200ms
But here’s the interesting part 🧠👇
A shorter slot time doesn’t automatically mean Solana will process proportionally more transactions. The upgrade also adjusts per-slot resource limits to keep the overall execution budget broadly balanced.
So the real test isn’t simply “How fast can Solana go?”
It’s whether validators, transaction propagation and network coordination can remain reliable as the timing gets tighter.
