SBF reportedly paid seven figures for Uniswap.com… only for Uniswap to eventually get the domain without paying for it. 😂
Hayden Adams says the original owner wanted a seven figure price for Uniswap.com, but the Uniswap team refused to pay.
SBF allegedly bought it instead and pointed the domain toward a Uniswap fork.
The move apparently didn't age well.
Uniswap Labs challenged the domain, and in 2021, a WIPO panel found that Uniswap.com had been registered and used in bad faith. The domain was ordered to be transferred to Uniswap Labs.
So the domain that reportedly cost seven figures ended up in Uniswap's hands without them buying it.
There's an important detail here though.
The WIPO record does not name SBF as the purchaser. That part comes from Hayden Adams' account, while the legal proceeding independently confirms the bad faith finding and transfer.
Still, the irony is hard to miss.
Someone allegedly spent seven figures trying to mess with Uniswap's brand, and the end result was Uniswap owning the exact domain they originally refused to overpay for.
Crypto really does have a way of turning flexes into historical footnotes. 😭
And honestly, this is why domain ownership and trademarks matter more than people think.
In crypto, code can be forked.
Liquidity can migrate.
But the brand and user trust are much harder to fork.
