According to Sina Finance, citing local media and Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam may face power shortages starting in 2027 because progress on power generation and grid projects has lagged. Electricity supply is expected to meet demand in 2026, but rising consumption and delays to new projects could lead to shortages beginning next year. By 2027, Vietnam could face a capacity gap of about 4,200 megawatts and a power shortfall of about 2.9 billion kilowatt-hours. By 2030, the gap could widen to about 13,900 megawatts and 61.2 billion kilowatt-hours.
