CLARITY Act | D-Day Is Here

The Senate's cloture vote on the CLARITY Act lands today at 2:15pm ET, the first real test of whether the biggest crypto market structure bill in US history moves forward or stalls out.

Bitcoin has been trading almost opposite to stocks and gold lately, and that divergence looks tied to this vote. $BTC sat near $78.7K-78.9K yesterday, up over 1% as traders leaned into regulatory optimism, even as broader risk assets stayed choppy on Fed rate hike bets.

Still, the two sides are far from aligned:

🔹 Republican Sen. Lummis says Democrats keep moving the goalposts. Trump already agreed to two historic ethics provisions Democrats demanded, she says there's nothing left to give.

🔹 Democratic Sen. Warner pushed back hard, calling the latest ethics language "not near enough."

🔹 Senate Democrats are reportedly finalizing a counter-proposal overnight ahead of the vote, mainly around the ethics and enforcement language.

Worth remembering: this is a procedural cloture vote needing 60 votes, not final passage. If it fails, Lummis has warned the bill is effectively dead for the rest of 2026. If it clears, it still needs floor debate, a final passage vote, and reconciliation with the House text before year end.
