I honestly think most people are reading this wrong.
Bitcoin gained roughly 25% in August, its strongest monthly rally since November 2024, and pushed back toward $79,000-$82,000. Headlines are calling it the start of a new bull run. But look at what's actually moving the price, and the story gets more complicated.
Exchange data shows Binance's Bitcoin reserves are still sitting elevated around 685,000-690,000 BTC. Futures open interest is high. Spot demand — actual people buying and holding — remains soft. In other words, this rally is being carried more by derivatives positioning than by real accumulation.
And that's why $82,000 keeps rejecting BTC. Four times since late August, price has pushed into the low $82,000s and gotten slammed right back down. That's not random noise. That's a real supply wall where holders are ready to sell into strength.
Here's the part that actually matters more than the price action: this cycle's drawdown from the October 2025 all-time high of $125,653 has only been around 37-50%. Compare that to the 77% and 83% drawdowns in previous cycles. Every cycle has bottomed shallower than the last — and that structural shift is a bigger story than any single day's candle.
The next real catalysts aren't technical. They're the September 15-16 window: the Senate's CLARITY Act vote and the Fed's rate decision. Either one can move more than a week of chart analysis.
For me, the takeaway isn't "Bitcoin hit $79K."
It's that the market is currently more leveraged than convinced — and leveraged rallies are the ones that reverse the hardest when the macro news doesn't cooperate.
