According to CNBC, Ant International said Thursday it has signed Visa and Mastercard to work on a new standard for payments made through AI agents, as the company bets consumers and businesses will use them more widely. The firms cited McKinsey projections that AI agents could handle $3 trillion to $5 trillion of global consumer commerce by 2030. Ant International Chief Innovation Officer Jiang-Ming Yang said AI agents can hallucinate and that trust is needed to make users feel safe. The collaboration will focus on a "know your agent" framework that links each agent to a valid entity, assesses behavior and monitors activity. Yang said an agent registered with Ant would not need to register again with Visa or Mastercard. Mastercard Chief Digital Officer Pablo Fourez said interoperability across Know-Your-Agent frameworks is essential to making agentic commerce work at scale.
