Tuesday was big for energy.
State Street’s Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF $XLE hit an all-time intraday high since its 1998 launch, up nearly 1%. Vanguard’s Energy Index $VDE.ETF also set a new intraday record since 2004, gaining about 1%. The State Street S&P Oil & Gas Exploration & Production ETF $XOP.ETF reached a multi-year high.
Refiners joined the rally. Phillips 66 (PSX), Marathon Petroleum (MPC), and Valero Energy (VLO) all hit 52-week highs.
The move points to strong demand and solid refiner margins, with investors rotating back into energy names
