Cosmos EVM Warning Is Still Live: Some Chains Must Halt
This is not just a post-incident recap. Cosmos Labs’ latest public guidance says public chains running Cosmos EVM below v0.6.2 or v0.7.2 should immediately halt and upgrade.
The warning followed attacks disclosed by three networks between August 20 and 22. KiiChain reported 148,326,583.15 KII drained across 18 attacks before it halted at block 9,355,723 at 22:50:58 UTC on August 22. It says 80,728,575.06 KII remains immobilized on-chain, while 67,597,997.87 KII was bridged to BNB Smart Chain. Recovery of the 3 million KII sent to a KuCoin deposit address was still pending in its incident report.
The shared-risk detail matters: KiiChain says the exploit involved the Cosmos EVM module, not KiiChain-specific code, and that two of three underlying defects remained unfixed upstream in its report. MANTRA has resumed after deploying v8.4.0 and says user balances were unchanged; TAC also reported an account drain and halted its chain.
What is confirmed: multiple Cosmos EVM-based networks suffered unauthorized asset movement or emergency halts, and Cosmos Labs issued version-specific halt guidance.
What is not confirmed: the complete affected-chain list, aggregate losses, and whether every deployment below the version floor has the same exposure.
