A $NEAR account derives a separate key for every chain it signs on
Chain signatures let @NEARProtocol accounts, including smart contracts, sign transactions for other blockchains. No single machine holds the key: a multi-party computation service spreads it across several independent nodes, each producing a fragment that combines into one joint signature.
Each target chain gets its own address, derived from the $NEAR account plus a path string. Requests flow through a signer contract that takes the transaction, the path, and the signature scheme.
Different paths derive different keys, so a signature for one chain can not authorize a transaction on another.
