China’s State Administration for Market Regulation ordered Tesla to recall nearly 3 million cars as part of the country’s biggest ever vehicle recall, affecting more than four million vehicles in total, according to BBC. The regulator said Tesla’s recalled cars have door handles that are difficult to identify because they match the interior trim, and that an electrical failure could stop passengers opening the doors quickly or hinder rescue efforts. China also ordered Xiaomi, XPeng and Geely to recall more than 750,000 vehicles combined and to add warning labels inside vehicle doors. The move comes ahead of new Chinese rules taking effect on 1 January 2027 that will ban new car designs without physical release mechanisms on the inside and outside of doors.
