🔥 One of Crypto's Most Practical Real-World Use Cases Is Starting to Show Up

Stablecoin payments through x402 reached 8.7 million transactions last week, the highest weekly level recorded so far in 2026.

What makes x402 interesting is its potential role in the emerging AI agent economy.
The protocol allows AI agents to make autonomous payments when they need to access data, APIs, software, or other digital services — without requiring a human to manually approve every transaction.
And the network distribution is changing quickly.

Base once dominated x402 activity, accounting for around 93% of transactions.
Today, its share has fallen to roughly 48%, while Solana has rapidly caught up with around 38%.
But there's an important caveat:
Despite the huge number of transactions, the actual amount of money moving through the system is still extremely small.

Total transaction value was only around $368,000, meaning the average transaction was just $0.04.
That tells us something important.

x402 is generating massive transaction activity, but it hasn't reached meaningful economic scale yet.

The current numbers are also still well below the previous peak in November 2025, when x402 reportedly processed around 20.1 million transactions worth more than $10 million.

Still, the concept is worth watching.

Today, an AI agent may only be paying a few cents to retrieve a dataset or call an API.

But as AI agents become more autonomous and start spending meaningful amounts of money to complete tasks, this kind of machine-to-machine stablecoin payment infrastructure could become increasingly important.

The bigger thesis isn't about today's $0.04 transactions.

It's about what happens when millions of AI agents start conducting economic activity on-chain without humans sitting in the middle of every payment.

That could be the beginning of a real on-chain AI economy.
