BTC Broke $80K. Why Are ETH & SOL Following?

The easy explanation is:

“BTC went up, so altcoins went up.”

I think that's too simplistic.

What we're seeing looks more like a capital-rotation process.

BTC recently moved above $80K after a powerful breakout, while ETH recovered toward $2,500 and SOL pushed above $100. BTC gained more than 20% over the week, while ETH gained more than 30%.

But the interesting part isn't just price.

Follow the money.

U.S. spot ETFs recorded roughly:

BTC: +$1.9B weekly inflows

ETH: +$697M weekly inflows

And on Aug. 20 alone:

BTC +$606M

ETH +$219.5M

SOL +$14.6M

That tells me this isn't purely a retail momentum story.

Institutional demand is broadening.

The market structure I'm watching is:

BTC breakout → BTC stabilization → ETH confirmation → SOL/high-beta rotation

But there is a catch.

BTC

The $80K level now needs to become support, not just a resistance level that was briefly crossed.

The key downside zone I'm watching is roughly $76K–$77K.

ETH

ETH is approaching the $2,500–$2,550 resistance zone.

A clean break supported by spot volume + continued ETF inflows would strengthen the rotation thesis.

SOL

SOL has moved through the psychological $100 level.

Now the question is whether $100 becomes support.

That's more important than simply touching $100.

The leverage test

If price rises while:

OI ↑↑

Funding ↑↑

Spot volume ↓

I'd be cautious.

That's a potentially crowded trade.

But:

Price ↑

Spot volume ↑

ETF flows ↑

OI controlled

Funding normal

would be a much healthier structure.

My framework:

🟢 BTC holds $80K + ETH breaks $2,550 + SOL holds $100

→ rotation could continue.

🟡 BTC consolidates $77K–$82K

→ potentially healthy reset.

🔴 BTC loses $76–77K + ETF flows reverse

ETH and especially high-beta SOL become vulnerable.

So I'm not asking:

“Will BTC make ETH and SOL pump?”

I'm asking:

“Has BTC created enough stability for capital to move further down the risk curve?”

That's the signal I'd watch.

BTC trend + BTC dominance + ETH/BTC + SOL/BTC + ETF flows + spot volume + OI/funding + macro liquidity.

One indicator can mislead.

When several independent signals align, the market becomes much easier to read.

What matters next isn't whether BTC can stay above $80K.

It's whether the market can build acceptance above it.
