theres one word sitting quietly in dusks own docs that would start a fight in any crypto forum.... in the list of what onchain logic can reflect, "eligibility, limits, reporting, RECOVERY, and settlement." recovery. and today i want to explain why that scandal-word is actually the adoption unlock (crypto natives, breathe, then read)
heres the collision. cryptos founding physics, keys are ownership, lost keys are lost funds, no exceptions, no appeals. thats not a flaw, its the trustlessness itself. but regulated securities live under DIFFERENT physics, and the difference is legal, not technical. a share register must survive death, divorce, court orders, corporate restructuring, and yes, lost passwords.... an estate inheriting a bond portfolio cannot be told "grandpa forgot the seed phrase, the bonds are gone." securities law REQUIRES recoverability. an unrecoverable security is, in most frameworks, an unissuable one.
so every serious rwa chain faces the fork.... betray crypto physics or betray securities law. dusks answer, make recovery an ASSET-level power, not a chain-level one. the ledger stays immutable, consensus never reverses.... but a natively issued security can carry issuer or registrar recovery logic in its own contract, reissue to verified heirs, execute court-ordered transfers, replace lost-key holdings. the CHAIN is trustless. the ASSET is lawful. two layers, two physics, coexisting.
and notice what makes recovery non-scandalous here.... its disclosed in the instrument itself. buyers of a recoverable bond KNOW its recoverable, the power has an address, a license, an accountable holder. compare that to the actual scandal, chains pretending immutability while foundations quietly hold upgrade keys.
the institutional reframe, recovery isnt a backdoor. its the front door, labeled, that securities law was always going to demand. more tommorow.
