One blockchain metric gets too much attention in isolation: speed.
A transaction can be included quickly and still leave a more important market-structure question unanswered:
When is it actually final?
Dusk approaches that through Succinct Attestation, its committee-based proof-of-stake consensus.
Each round moves through three distinct stages:
Proposal → Validation → Ratification
A provisioner proposes the block, one committee validates it, and another ratifies the result. Once ratified, the block reaches deterministic finality.
That distinction matters for financial infrastructure.
Markets don’t only care about how fast data appears on-chain. They also care about the point at which participants can treat settlement as complete rather than keep pricing in the possibility of a reorganization.
So when I look at blockchain performance, I wouldn’t ask only:
“How fast is the chain?”
I’d also ask:
“How quickly does uncertainty disappear?”
That is a different metric — and for settlement infrastructure, potentially the more important one.
