According to CNBC, Boeing is selling three subsidiaries — Wisk Aero, SkyGrid and Insitu — to Archer Aviation in exchange for an undisclosed stake in the eVTOL startup. Wisk has been developing an autonomous eVTOL, SkyGrid works on air traffic management systems for air taxis, and Insitu makes high-altitude drones used globally, including by the U.S. Navy. Boeing vice president of commercial airplanes product development Brian Yutko said the deal lets the three units speed up development and commercialization while allowing Boeing to benefit from two decades of investment in the technologies through its core businesses. Archer CEO Adam Goldstein said the acquisition is a step toward becoming a diversified platform, growing revenue and expanding scale. Archer is targeting commercial eVTOL flights by the end of this year or early next year. Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg has previously said the company needs to focus on its three primary businesses and create a leaner organization.
