Solana Foundation's new CISO

Solana Foundation warns AI is increasing crypto scam risks
Michael Coates, the new Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at the Solana Foundation, says AI-powered scams are becoming the biggest security threat to crypto users.
The biggest risks are no longer just smart contract bugs—they now include:
AI-generated phishing messages
Deepfake voice and video calls
Fake identities
Stolen credentials
Coates believes attackers will increasingly target people rather than blockchain code because it's often easier to compromise users than protocols.
He recommends multiple layers of security, such as:
Hardware wallets
Multi-factor authentication (MFA)
Multi-signature wallets
Transaction verification
Careful confirmation of identities before sending funds
He also emphasized that the industry should make secure behavior the default, rather than expecting every user to be a security expert.
Looking ahead, the Solana Foundation is also preparing for quantum computing by researching and adopting post-quantum cryptography.
What this means for crypto investors
Be cautious of AI-generated voice calls, videos, and messages asking for wallet access or seed phrases.
Never share your private keys or recovery phrase.
Verify requests through multiple trusted channels before transferring crypto.
Diversify wallet storage and use strong security features to reduce risk.
