Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire warns that agentic AI will replace a large share of human work at massive scale, especially in white-collar jobs, fundamentally reshaping the labor market. He believes AI will significantly boost productivity, accelerate economic activity, and transform GDP growth across industries.
However, this shift may lead to rising unemployment in the near term, as companies adopt AI to reduce hiring and cut costs. Major firms like Meta and Block are already restructuring their workforces to improve efficiency through AI.
Allaire argues that while AI will displace jobs, it will also empower individuals who embrace it, giving them “superpowers” to achieve far more than before. He emphasizes that adapting to AI tools will be critical, particularly for younger workers, who have the greatest opportunity to thrive.
He also highlights the need to rethink the social contract, as traditional solutions like retraining or universal basic income may not be sufficient to address the scale of disruption AI could bring globally.
