A report said Bo Hines, a former Trump crypto adviser, kept a one‑third stake in Nxum while pushing the GENIUS stablecoin bill. Nxum got $6.3 million from Tether in a deal that began while he was still in government, with the first payment made during his White House term. He used Signal to update Nxum partners and told them to call Republican opponents "undermining the president" and "bought and paid for by democratic shills like Coinbase and a16z." Hines joined Tether as a strategic adviser in August 2025 and became CEO of its US arm the next month. The GENIUS Act was signed into law in July 2025 and takes effect in January 2027. The president reported $1.4 billion in digital‑asset earnings for 2025, including millions from his family's World Liberty Financial. The case highlights concerns about former officials profiting from laws they helped shape.
