Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has officially cleared all regulatory barriers for satellite internet services, paving the way for companies like Starlink, OneWeb, Amazon’s Project Kuiper, and others to operate in Pakistan under a new Fixed Satellite Services (FSS) framework.

The approval ends years of delays linked to security reviews, data sovereignty concerns, and regulatory coordination issues.

Under the new system, satellite operators will require a single licence, with reduced fees and a 15-year validity period. Services are expected to roll out within 18 months of approval, with mandatory local infrastructure and data compliance rules.

The move is expected to significantly improve connectivity, especially in remote and underserved regions of Pakistan.
