Tether's USDT is still the dollar of crypto. As of this week it's sitting close to its peg at just under a dollar, with a market cap around $183 billion and daily trading volume in the tens of billions, more than most exchanges see in Bitcoin itself. Tether ranks third among all cryptocurrencies by market cap, with a 24-hour trading volume in the tens of billions of dollars. That kind of liquidity is why USDT remains the default trading pair across almost every exchange, Binance included.
What's more interesting is what's happening behind that number. Tether recently completed a full independent audit of its financial statements for 2025, with KPMG US issuing an unqualified opinion, the most favorable rating an auditor can give. For a company that's spent years fending off questions about whether its reserves actually back every token in circulation, that's a meaningful shift in tone.
Tether is also branching out well beyond stablecoins. Its tokenized gold product, Tether Gold, grew its holdings by close to 10 percent in the second quarter of 2026 even as gold prices fell, suggesting real demand for direct exposure to physical gold through a token. And earlier this month, Tether teamed up with Fasanara Capital to launch a $400 million private credit fund, using stablecoin infrastructure to fund real-economy lending. That's Tether positioning itself as financial infrastructure, not just a trading tool.
