$ZEC -9.4%: the NU7 pop just unpumped itself.
Yesterday the headline was "devs locked the NU7 activation at block 3,543,405 (~Nov 5)" — CoinDesk, Cointelegraph — and ZEC ripped +12% to $1,368.
Today someone actually read the project docs. CryptoTicker's own check of z.cash/upgrade/nu7: "The activation height for NU7 has not yet been set." October 20 was the deadline to set it — it passed. The block number lives in Sean Bowe's pull request, not in the deployment ZIP or the node software. All six NU7 ZIPs still sit at "Draft." A meeting understanding is not a lock, and November 5 is a goal, not a date.
The tape did the math: $1,368 → $1,209, -9.4% in 24h on $308M (heavier than yesterday's $249M pop-day volume), -11.9% top to low. Three $25M+ dump bars chewed through the whole pop. Back within reach of the $1,133–1,190 pre-pop base — the entire headline move, erased.
Both sides: the upgrade substance is real (75s→25s blocks, 60% of fees out of circulation), and the broad market bled too (BTC -4.1% to $81.1k). But a +12% pop needs a locked catalyst, and the lock isn't there.
So was yesterday's +12% buying the upgrade — or buying the headline about the upgrade?
