In its October 6 Sibos recap, $ENS says owning an ENS name proves nothing about legal identity by itself. ENS Labs and GLEIF are developing a way to associate names with verifiable organizational identifiers; that work is still in development.
The practical distinction: finding a payment destination and verifying who controls it are separate checks. A familiar-looking name alone should not settle the second question.
