Starknet has opened a seven-day, non-binding vote on whether the network should explore becoming an independent Layer 1 with post-quantum security.
A “Yes” vote would only start more research and community discussions. It would not immediately change Starknet’s current setup as an Ethereum Layer 2.
The proposal focuses on giving Starknet more control over its security and future upgrades.
Starknet already uses STARK technology, which is designed to be resistant to quantum attacks, but some parts of the network still depend on Ethereum.
For now, no final decision has been made, and $STRK would remain the network’s native token if the plan moves forward.
