Hacker Shifts $83M in Stolen XRP While The Exchange Handles the Aftermath
The fallout from the $387.5 million breach continues to develop.
The attacker has reportedly transferred roughly $83 million worth of stolen $XRP from three holding wallets, while about $75 million stays in wallets that cannot be frozen under XRP Ledger rules.
Exchanges can blacklist addresses receiving the stolen assets, yet the attacker’s own wallets cannot be blocked. At the same time, Circle and Tether have frozen around $320,000 in related stablecoins.
The exchange states its protection fund will completely cover the losses and that customer balances remain safe. Withdrawals are set to restart gradually between Sept. 28 and Oct. 2.
Attention now moves from the breach itself to how much of the stolen funds can truly be tracked, frozen, or recovered. 🚨💰
