Trump Just Refused MBS’ Request to Strike the Houthis.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reportedly called Trump twice on Thursday, asking for U.S. strikes as Houthi forces seized Mocha and moved closer to the critical Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Trump declined, keeping U.S. forces focused on Iran while providing Saudi Arabia with intelligence and targeting support.

The stakes are rising: Hormuz is already disrupted, while roughly 7% of global oil output passes through Bab el-Mandeb. Saudi exports were also disrupted in August.

Two oil chokepoints. Two conflicts. One increasingly fragile energy market.
