Been reading through the Dusk docs today, and one thing made me pause.
When I first hear “privacy blockchain,” my mind naturally goes to hiding transactions completely. But that seems like a pretty limited way to look at what Dusk is trying to do.
What I found more interesting is the distinction between keeping information private and simply making everything invisible.
Dusk supports confidential transactions where sensitive details can stay hidden while the network can still verify that the transaction is valid. So the blockchain doesn’t necessarily need to know every private detail just to know that something is legitimate.
Then there’s selective disclosure.
That part actually makes more sense to me for financial use cases. Sometimes information has to be shared with an authorized party. Privacy doesn’t have to mean “nobody can ever see anything.” It can mean you decide what gets revealed, and to whom.
I think that’s an easy distinction to miss when people casually describe something as a “privacy blockchain.”
The interesting problem isn’t simply hiding data. It’s finding a balance between privacy, verification, and the need to prove certain things when required.
The more I read, the more I wonder:
Should financial privacy be about disappearing from the system, or having more control over what the system gets to see?
