Cristiano Ronaldo and Binance: the alliance that brought football to the Web3 world
Lisbon / 2025. Cristiano Ronaldo not only continues to shine on the field, but he is also leaving his mark on the digital world. Since 2022, the famous Portuguese footballer has been in an exclusive collaboration with Binance, the largest cryptocurrency exchange on the planet, to bring his personal brand to the exciting universe of NFTs (non-fungible tokens).
This collaboration brought to life collections like “ForeverCR7: The GOAT”, launched in 2023, where thousands of digital pieces captured iconic moments from the striker's career. But these works were much more than simple images: buyers had access to unique experiences, ranging from signed jerseys to personalized greetings and meetings with Ronaldo himself.
I wanted to offer my fans something truly special, immortalizing my story both on and off the field,” Ronaldo commented when presenting his first collection, emphasizing that his partnership with Binance allowed him to connect with millions of followers in a completely new space.
Why did Binance decide to partner with CR7?
For the platform founded by Changpeng Zhao, having Ronaldo represented a bridge between sports and blockchain technology. Its goal was to bring the crypto world closer to a global audience, using the figure of an icon that transcends borders.
The result was a media phenomenon: within hours, the first editions of the NFTs sold out and were resold in the secondary market for much higher figures than the initial ones.
And what about the CR7 cryptocurrency?
Although in recent months tokens with the name “CR7” have emerged, Binance has made it clear that there is no official cryptocurrency of Cristiano Ronaldo. The player's only legitimate relationship with the exchange is limited to collectible NFTs. The supposed “CR7 coins” circulating on other platforms are unofficial projects.
