Key Points
Initia combines Layer 1 and Layer 2. Initia offers a base blockchain (Initia L1) and an easily customizable rollup network to further facilitate the building and management of blockchain applications.
Interwoven Stack provides ready-to-use developer-friendly tools. These tools include solutions for bridging, governance, liquidity, and more.
InitiaDEX supports liquidity across the network, while the VIP program and INIT tokens serve as rewards for active users and projects.
Introduction
Initia is a blockchain project that combines Layer 1 blockchains and customizable Layer 2 rollup networks. The idea is to make it easier for developers to build their own blockchains and applications — without having to deal with all the technical issues that usually accompany it. With integrated tools and infrastructure, Initia helps create a connected, easily scalable, and user-friendly multichain ecosystem.
Why Choose Initia?
Many blockchain projects delegate every decision to developers, which can slow down processes or lead to messy setups. Initia takes a different approach. Initia makes several difficult infrastructure choices early on — such as how data is stored, how blockchains communicate with each other, and how oracles are used — so that developers can focus on building great applications.
The result is something called the Interwoven Stack — a set of tools and systems that simplify the launch and management of custom blockchains (also known as rollups).
How Initia Works
Initia has three main parts:
Initia L1: A Layer 1 blockchain that connects everything.
Interwoven Rollup: A Layer 2 custom chain that runs on top of Initia L1.
Interwoven Stack: A development framework that provides the tools, standards, and infrastructure to build and operate rollups and applications.
Initia L1: The base layer
Initia L1 is built using Cosmos SDK and serves as the main coordination and liquidity layer. As the base layer, Initia is involved in various functions, including:
Security: Rollups connect to L1 for security features such as token bridging, verifying data, and capturing fraud.
Liquidity: This layer has an internal DEX called InitiaDEX that makes it easy for users and rollups to swap tokens and share liquidity.
Communication: L1 facilitates various rollups to communicate with each other. This layer can also help rollups connect with other blockchain ecosystems.
Incentives: L1 supports reward programs such as VIP (Vested Interest Program) and Enshrined Liquidity.
Interwoven Rollup
Rollups are like mini blockchains built on top of Initia L1. Their uniqueness lies in their flexibility. Developers can customize key aspects of their rollups, including:
Virtual machine: You can choose between EVM (for Ethereum compatibility), MoveVM, or WasmVM.
Gas and fees: Want to use INIT, stablecoins, your own tokens, or a combination of multiple assets? Each rollup can set its own fee system.
Transaction ordering: Developers have the option to implement custom transaction ordering methods that can be useful for more specific needs.
Essentially, you can customize your own Layer 2 blockchain without having to start from scratch.
Interwoven Stack
Interwoven Stack is a set of tools that simplify the development and operation of rollups. This component provides the necessary tools to launch and manage your rollup from day one. Interwoven Stack includes:
Pre-built SDKs for creating rollups and integrating with Initia L1.
Native solutions for tasks such as bridging, message handling, governance, and liquidity management.
A set of standards and templates that help ensure compatibility across the ecosystem.
InitiaDEX
InitiaDEX is the internal decentralized exchange on Initia L1. This exchange supports Weighted Pools (like Balancer) for trading various assets and StableSwap Pools for trading assets with similar values (like stablecoins).
This DEX is designed to be the main place for rollups to access and share liquidity. InitiaDEX enables routine and advanced cross-rollup swaps, as well as serving as a foundation for applications that rely on deep and easily accessible liquidity.
The DEX also supports Enshrined Liquidity, allowing specific liquidity pools to be approved by governance to function as staking assets. This helps align network security and economic incentives with market activity.
Ecosystem Rewards
To maintain user and developer engagement, Initia runs a Vested Interest Program (VIP). This program distributes INIT tokens to rollups and users based on factors such as:
Total Value Locked (TVL) in a rollup.
On-chain activity (such as the number of transactions).
Participation in governance.
This system is designed to provide rewards to projects and users who help develop the network.
Other Tools in the Ecosystem
Initia also includes:
Initia Applications: Dashboard to explore the ecosystem
Initia scan: Block explorer
Initia Username: Naming service that works across various rollups
Initia Multisig: Tool for managing wallets with multiple signers
All of this is built to make the ecosystem easier for developers and end-users.
INIT Token
INIT is the native token of the Initia ecosystem. Here are its uses:
Gas fees: Used to pay for transactions on L1 and qualifying rollups
Staking: Helps secure the network when users delegate INIT
Governance: Allows owners to vote on network development
Rewards: Used in reward programs like VIP to encourage activity
The total supply of INIT is 1 billion tokens. A portion of it is used for staking, a portion for developers, and a portion for users through programs like Binance Launchpool.
INIT on Binance Launchpool
On April 17, 2025, Binance announced INIT as the 68th project on Binance Launchpool. Users who lock their BNB, FDUSD, and USDC during the farming period are eligible to receive INIT rewards. A total of 30 million INIT tokens are allocated for this program, which represents 3% of the total token supply.
After the farming period, INIT is listed on Binance with a Seed Tag, allowing trading with USDT, USDC, BNB, FDUSD, and TRY pairs.
Conclusion
Initia presents a developer-friendly modular approach to building easily scalable blockchain applications. The project combines Layer 1 blockchain with customizable rollups and complete tools for developers. Initia aims to simplify building applications on Web3 without the obstacles that typically arise in multichain settings.
