In the current unpredictable cryptocurrency market, a significant piece of news has drawn widespread attention. On March 31, the price of Dogecoin (DOGE) saw a nearly 4% decline, and the reason behind it was related to an unexpected rumor clarification.

All along, Dogecoin has been intricately linked with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who is referred to by many fans as the 'father of Dogecoin'. However, recently, Musk has rarely drawn a line. At a town hall meeting in Green Bay, Wisconsin, hosted by his American political action committee, Musk explicitly stated that the Trump administration has no plans to use Dogecoin, while emphasizing that the government efficiency department (D.O.G.E) has no connection to meme coins (such as Dogecoin).

It is worth noting that the English abbreviation for the U.S. government efficiency department is 'D.O.G.E', which is very similar to the English name of Dogecoin 'DOGE', easily leading to misunderstandings. Previously, Musk had also promoted Dogecoin multiple times, even triggering an investigation by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and he became the subject of market manipulation lawsuits in 2023. However, this time his remarks seem not to have stirred up as much of a wave as before.

Musk explained that the name of the government efficiency department actually originated from suggestions online. He originally wanted to call it the Government Efficiency Committee but found the name too boring. He later followed the internet's suggestion and named it the Government Efficiency Department. The main goal of this department is to improve government efficiency by 15%, which has no direct relation to Dogecoin.

Nevertheless, Dogecoin had previously seen significant rises due to some rumors associated with it. In February of this year, Dogecoin's official website briefly displayed the Shiba Inu mascot, sparking rumors about the cryptocurrency's promotion and driving Dogecoin up by 14%, with a market value reaching $58 billion at one point.

Today, the U.S. government's efficiency department has become one of President Trump's key initiatives to shrink the federal government. The department is set to propose its plans for the first time in August 2024, aiming to cut spending, reduce regulatory overlap, and reorganize federal agencies. Since its formal establishment, the department has undergone massive layoffs and cut funding for projects related to climate change, scientific research, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Affected agencies include the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), and the Social Security Administration (SSA). Currently, the department is facing multiple lawsuits attempting to weaken its powers.

As for Musk's official role in the Trump administration, it remains a controversial topic to this day. The White House insists that he is merely a senior advisor with no policy power, while Trump publicly claims he is the leader of the department. Musk himself has stated that he worked in the department without compensation.
