🚨 £36 MILLION. One donation just rewrote the UK political fundraising record.
British crypto billionaire Ben Delo has donated £36m to Reform UK, making it the largest single donation ever received by a UK political party.
Delo says he wants a “fair fight and a level playing field” and had originally planned to give £1m a month through 2029, but chose to pay the full amount upfront amid potential future restrictions on mega-donations.
The timing is notable.
Reform is already facing scrutiny over its finances, while police are investigating allegations linked to foreign funding laws. The party denies wrongdoing and says it will cooperate.
Meanwhile, the UK government is considering tighter rules on large political donations from British citizens living overseas or recently returning to the country.
For crypto, this is an interesting moment: a fortune built in the digital-asset industry is now becoming a major force in mainstream political fundraising.
But the bigger question isn't just how much was donated.
It is whether political systems should allow individuals with enormous private wealth to have such a large financial influence on elections.
£36m may have broken a record — but it could also reignite the debate over where the line between political participation and political influence should sit.
