According to AFP, Belgian police detained Eva Kaili, a vice president of the European Parliament and crypto aficionado, in connection with a potential corruption plot involving Qatar.

Eva Kaili was apprehended by Belgian police in Brussels on Friday evening. According to the source, the arrest is in conjunction with a probe into corruption involving World Cup hosts Qatar and comes after the arrests of four other individuals earlier Friday.

Kaili was set to head the European Parliament’s study on NFTs and to contribute to the DLT Pilot Regime project, which was set to commence in March. Since 2018, she has played a significant role in crafting policies on crypto assets and blockchain.

The Greek legislator has been suspended from both the Socialists and Democrats parliamentary group and the Greek national party PASOK until further notice.
