Zcash (ZEC) is feeling the heat. After a sharp 12% drop, the privacy coin is facing a classic "capital flight" scenario. When $52 million leaves the building in a single session, people start looking for the nearest exit.
The big question now: is this just a nasty speed bump, or are we looking at a deeper structural collapse?
The Momentum Problem
The technicals aren't exactly painting a pretty picture. If you look at the indicators, the exhaustion is visible.
MACD Fatigue: The Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) shows bullish momentum is basically on life support. The histogram is fading fast, shifting from deep green to a pale shadow of its former self.
Money Flow: The Chaikin Money Flow (CMF) confirms what the price action suggests—selling volume is dominating the room.
Futures Shakeout: Roughly $52 million was pulled from ZEC’s perpetual futures market, with nearly $3 million in liquidations. That’s a lot of forced selling.
Is There a Silver Lining?
It’s not all doom and gloom, though. While the derivatives market is panicking, the spot market is showing a bit of backbone.
On February 18th, buyers actually stepped in to the tune of $18 million. This suggests that while traders are dumping their leveraged bets, some long-term investors are happy to "buy the dip" at these lower levels.
The Verdict
The Long/Short ratio has dipped to 0.923. In plain English: there are more people betting on a crash than a recovery right now. For the bulls to take back the wheel, ZEC needs to hold its ground through the daily close and hope that spot demand keeps outshining the futures wreckage.
If the funding rate flips negative, the bears will likely double down, and that "deeper breakdown" everyone is worried about could become a reality very quickly.

ZCash experienced high volatility on the price charts in recent weeks.
AMBCrypto reported that the defense of the $187 level was a crucial development. This level was an important retracement support level on the weekly timeframe.
Zooming in, the past few days’ trading saw ZEC rally beyond $300.
Following Bitcoin’s [BTC] rejection at $$70.9k on Sunday, the 15th of February, ZEC has slipped back below the $300 psychological support, as well as the 4-hour timeframe’s imbalance at this area.
It was expected that ZCash [ZEC] bulls had the short-term strength to drive prices to $360, but at the same time, AMBCrypto had warned in an earlier report that Bitcoin [BTC] weakness could see selling pressure on ZEC.
The short and long-term price situation has been laid out thus far.
The Spot selling pressure remained prevalent, as the Spot Taker CVD showed with its taker sell-dominant reading.
But why did ZCash begin its immense rally in September 2025? What conditions need to align for ZEC bulls to repeat the feat?
A closer look at the ZCash onchain trends
The privacy coin narrative seized greater and greater mindshare beginning in August last year. It grew wildly popular in October. This saw an increased total transfer, as the unshielded transactions data above showed.
It also increased privacy-focused transactions, as the shielded stats show.
Shielded transactions encrypt transaction details such as sender, receiver, and amount, using zero-knowledge proofs.
The percentage of shielded transactions remained at around 14.5%-19.6% between April and July 2025. It reached local zeniths of 26.3% and 26.7% in August and October, respectively.
Combined with the growing privacy narrative and increased ZEC usage, the percentage increase might appear small. However, it still represents a vast swathe of users flocking to the network.
Interestingly, the shielded supply, or the ZEC in the privacy-preserving Sapling and Orchard pools, was at 3.2 million in June 2025. By November, it had grown to 5 million, where it remained at the time of writing.
Like BTC, ZEC also has a fixed max supply of 21 million. Hence, 5 million represents 30.24% of the circulating supply, a dramatic growth from November 2024, when the figure was 11.25%.
It is likely that the 2024 halving and the narrative shift, followed by the sizeable increase in shielded usage, are the only fundamental changes to ZCash over the past year. Spot ETF offeringscould also change the landscape.
Final Summary
ZCash experienced a massive shift in optics last year, but its use case remained the same, while user and investor appeal soared.In a way, ZCash was a lot like Bitcoin, which has become easier to use (example, Lightning Network) and invest in (spot ETFs) but remained fundamentally the same.

Покинувшие Electric Coin Company (ECC) разработчики объявили о создании новой структуры Zcash Open Development Lab (ZODL). 

Флагманский кошелек Zashi теперь называется Zodl. По словам команды, ребрендинг не повлияет на пользовательский опыт и не потребует никаких действий со стороны клиентов сервиса. Им не нужно скачивать новое приложение, менять сид-фразу или переводить средства.

«Просто продолжайте пользоваться Zashi как обычно. Приложение автоматически обновится до Zodl с выходом следующей версии. В ближайшие дни название Zashi начнет постепенно заменяться на Zodl во всех официальных каналах, включая Discord поддержки», — написали разработчики. 
В январе команда ECC в полном составе покинула компанию на фоне внутреннего конфликта. Экс-гендиректор фирмы Джош Суихарт заявил, что большинство членов совета директоров некоммерческого фонда Bootstrap действовали вразрез с миссией приватной криптовалюты.
Разработчики пояснили, что изменение было необходимо для дальнейшей эволюции протокола и внедрения ZEC без зависимости от фонда развития. 
«Инженеры и специалисты по продукту, которые годами развивали Zcash, остаются в строю и продолжают создавать новые решения», — подчеркнули в ZODL. 
Некоторые пользователи одобрили ребрендинг, сравнив новое название с популярным в сообществе словом HODL. Другие назвали его неудачным из-за трудностей с произношением. 
На фоне новости цена $ZEC выросла на 2,4% за последние 24 часа. На момент написания монета торгуется около $287 при капитализации в $4,7 млрд.

Напомним, основатель и CEO Digital Currency Group Барри Силберт спрогнозировал смещение фокуса с биткоина в сторону Zcash.
