#美联储纪要聚焦10月暂停加息 Pre-market U.S. stocks: Oil prices surge, index futures plunge—what are investors betting on before the opening bell today?
Guys, something feels off about the pre-market action today.
First, take a look at the most striking numbers: WTI crude is up more than 5%, and Brent has shot above $104. The VIX fear index has spiked to 16.01, up more than 6 points. Futures on all three major indexes have turned lower, with Dow futures briefly dropping more than 400 points.
What are investors worried about?
The oil-price surge isn’t being driven by demand alone. On one hand, things are heating up again between the U.S. and Iran, and Trump said he’s “in no rush to sign a deal.” On the other, a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico has knocked out 25% of oil production capacity. With supply tightening, inflation expectations are rising immediately.
Then look at Treasury yields, which are still pushing higher: 5.296% for the 10-year and 5.62% for the 30-year. The Fed’s September minutes struck a hawkish tone, with most officials thinking there’ll need to be another hike before year-end.
In other words: oil prices rise → inflation expectations climb → rate-hike expectations strengthen → rates go up → valuations get crushed.
That’s why semiconductors are getting hit before the bell. Micron is down 1.52%, and SK Hynix is down 0.59%. Memory stocks had just started to recover yesterday, and today macro pressures have pushed them back down.
So where is the money going?
Healthcare is one of the few bright spots today. Moderna is still climbing pre-market, and passive buying related to its inclusion in the Nasdaq 100 hasn’t run its course yet. Defensive appeal plus a strong catalyst has short-term money piling in.
What I’m watching today: Can oil prices stabilize after the open? If the VIX keeps climbing, this tech pullback may not be over yet. $SOXL $MSTR $CL
