DON’T BE MISLED BY THE BITCOIN RESERVE HYPE TODAY.

You’re going to see this all over social media, but there’s an important distinction between what is actually happening and what some accounts are making it sound like.

The bill being discussed is H.R. 8957, the American Reserve Modernization Act of 2026.

It would create a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve for government held BTC, largely involving Bitcoin already obtained through seizures and forfeitures.

It would also create a separate Digital Asset Stockpile for other digital assets already held by the government.

The proposal includes:

• A 20 year hold period for reserve Bitcoin
• Quarterly proof of reserve reporting
• Audits
• A government wide inventory of digital assets
• Self custody provisions
• A study into budget neutral ways of acquiring additional Bitcoin in the future

Importantly, the current public text does not order massive new taxpayer funded Bitcoin purchases.

And there’s another detail getting lost in the hype.

Today’s action is a House Financial Services Committee markup.

That means debate, possible amendments and a committee vote on whether to advance the legislation.

It is NOT a full vote of the US House of Representatives.

Even if it advances from committee, it would still have to pass the full House, pass the Senate and be signed by the President.

So when you see:

“THE US HOUSE IS VOTING TO MAKE BITCOIN THE NEW WORLD RESERVE ASSET”

Take a step back.

Bitcoin may be having a significant political moment in Washington, but a committee markup is not the same thing as a law, and this bill does not declare Bitcoin the world’s reserve asset.

Read the legislation. Understand the process. Then judge the significance for yourself.
