I've started looking at Bitcoin staking a little differently.
For years, most designs asked BTC holders to cross a bridge first and think about the risks later. That always felt backwards to me. Every extra bridge, wrapped asset, or custodian adds another place where trust can quietly pile up.
That's why Babylon caught my attention.
The interesting part isn't that BTC can participate in securing PoS networks. It's that the Bitcoin itself doesn't have to leave the Bitcoin network. To me, that's a much bigger shift than people give it credit for.
I’m not saying self-custody removes every risk. It doesn't. But it changes where the risk lives. Instead of depending on a long chain of intermediaries, you're relying more on Bitcoin's own security model and Babylon's staking design.
I've seen plenty of projects try to make Bitcoin more "useful" by moving it elsewhere. Babylon is one of the few that seems to ask a different question:
What if Bitcoin could do more without leaving home?
That framing feels more important than any APY number.
