From Telegram to Bitcoin ๐ŸŒ โ€” Durov Eyes $1 Million BTC

On the Lex Fridman Podcast, Telegram CEO Pavel Durov shared his bold long-term prediction for Bitcoin: โ€œI believe it will reach $1 million.โ€

When asked why he continues to buy BTC, Durov pointed to its early promise and monetary design. He revealed he bought his first Bitcoins in 2013 at around $700 each, holding through dips to $300, saying: โ€œI donโ€™t care. I wonโ€™t sell. This is my belief.โ€

For Durov, Bitcoinโ€™s censorship resistance and fixed supply make it special: โ€œNobody can take your Bitcoin. No one can censor you. Governments print money nonstop. No one prints Bitcoin.โ€

Interestingly, Bitcoinโ€”not Telegram revenuesโ€”has funded his lifestyle. โ€œI lose money on Telegram. Bitcoin helped me survive,โ€ he admitted, noting that his long-term view hasnโ€™t changed in over a decade.

Telegramโ€™s push into crypto also gives context to his $1M prediction. The company has integrated TON ecosystem features, including Toncoin-based ad payments, revenue sharing, and in-app wallet mini-apps enabling transfers and payments in the US as of July 2025. Worldwide wallet activations hit nine-figure numbers in 2024, signaling a growing on-chain payment network.

Durovโ€™s $1 million BTC thesis relies on supply discipline and fiat debasement, not short-term market trends.
