Because Binance processes thousands of transactions a second, the attacker created 50 different variations to make sure at least one would perfectly match Binance's rapid transaction counter. [1, 2]
The Drain: When one of those signatures went through, the new $ETH Ethereum upgrade kicked in. It essentially told the network: "Give this malicious code temporary permission to control the Binance wallet." Within minutes, the wallet was cleaned out. [1, 2, 3]
